CEWE supports UNICEF programme for girls and young women in Liberia

CEWE and UNICEF are working together as part of the CEWE Photo Award 2027, CEWE’s international photography competition. For every photo submitted, CEWE will donate €0.10 to UNICEF. The donation will support a programme in Liberia under UNICEF’s global “Skills4Girls” initiative, which strengthens girls and young women and aims to improve their access to education and open up better employment prospects.

With the international CEWE Photo Award, CEWE invites photography enthusiasts from around the world to share their personal perspectives. Under the motto “Our world is beautiful”, amateur and professional photographers can submit their images from 6 May 2026 to 31 May 2027. Entries can be submitted in ten categories as well as for the Young Talent Award. The best images will be selected by an international jury chaired by British photographer Christie Goodwin. CEWE’s support for UNICEF gives the competition a social purpose beyond photography.

Every entry submitted to the CEWE Photo Award 2027 also helps support children and young people in Liberia. This once again gives the photo competition an added sense of purpose. “Skills4Girls”: a global UNICEF initiative
“Skills4Girls” is a global UNICEF initiative that strengthens girls and young women and helps them develop skills for education, work and social participation. Since 2020, “Skills4Girls” has reached more than 16 million adolescent girls and young women worldwide. The project supported by CEWE is part of this initiative.

Safe places to learn and new prospects in Liberia
More than half of Liberia’s population lives in poverty. Many children live or work on the streets, and only around half of all children complete primary school. For girls and young women, the path towards an independent future is particularly difficult: around 30 per cent of women become pregnant during their teenage years, while around 60 per cent report experiences of violence.

In Liberia, the UNICEF programme is implemented through youth centres. These centres provide young people with safe spaces where they can receive support, learn and exchange ideas with others. The services also support young mothers, enabling them to take part in educational opportunities despite childcare responsibilities and develop new prospects for their future.
